Beauty is a series of diptychs and quadruptics of Western and Asian women. It addresses how modernization has influenced social and cultural values via Asia’s new-found paradigms of beauty and questions the desire of many women to look “more Western”. For decades, many Asians have preferred to look more “Western” and have undergone facial surgery to look more “beautiful”. This quadruptic investigates cultural aspects of beauty by exhibiting both their original and manipulated portraits.
